About the area and things to do
This area of North Carolina was dubbed the "Lost Province" because it was isolated from the rest of the state by the high peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains until 1921 when Highway 16 connected this area to Wilkesboro and the rest of the Piedmont. Despite being connected for the last hundred years, the area retains a feeling of being set apart. If you are looking for a place that's relaxing, uncrowded, quirky and full of potential adventures, Ashe County is for you.
